Sports are important for Children

Sports are important for children and I feel they should participate in them as early as they can. Also they should be in some kind of sport all through their adolescent years. I feel that any type of sport will help our children to learn lessons that will help them as they progress to adulthood.

Any activity that your child can participate in will benefit them. Being active benefits them from a young age. It helps them burn off energy. It helps them use muscles as they are growing. Attempting climbing, running, skipping, jumping while learning what they can accomplish and failing at the task they are trying to do.

I look at my 18 month old granddaughter and she tries things all the time, falls, hurts herself and then will get back up and do it again. All the while learning what not to do to succeed. I want to start her in gymnastics now. She likes to turn around, to roll over, to jump on chairs, to climb through tables. I think she will enjoy that. And also she can walk on her toes and has a lot of upper body and leg and feet strengh. So may try her in dance or ballet. Start her out now in sports.

This generation of children are glued to the monitor playing video games or watching tv or on their cell phones. I am talking about older children at this point. I remember we were outside from morning til evening, being active and coming in for dinner.

Individual Sports are important to build life skills

I believe sports (or any activity) that our children are a part of will benefit them. It can be gynnastics or dance/ballet – which develops their strength and goal setting; along with commitment and discipline to practice; perseverance when they can’t get it right the first time. It helps develop resillience (digging in to their resolve that they can do it and succeed) at the task. Sports teaches them responsibility and goal setting so they can accomplish something and not give up. And helps with their self confidence in persisting in showing up to do the hard work to become better. It helps them assert themselves and keeps them honest in their efforts.

Even playing on the monkey bars, or on the equipment in the parks, like I did, helps to develop some of the above skills. How these skills will transform into their teen and adult lives is it will give them can do attitude and help with sticking to something and not giving up. Whether that transforms into friendships, relationships, marriage, business dealings. Having the knowledge of who they are and knowing they can accomplish any thing they set their minds to is possible. I believe sports are important and are the stepping stone into these personal attributes that make up our children.

Team Sports are Important as Well

Team sports develop leadership skills and good sportsmanship in our children. Allowing them to be able to make a difference for the good on the team. It helps our children manage their time and develop their personal skill that will contribute to the whole team. It teaches them to work together and that teamwork is important. There can be pressures of being a team player, when everyone is not as good as some of the other players. It takes patience and controlling emotions to get along with others. Collaborating with their teams members to come up with strategies in winning the game or at least playing their best as a unit. And teaching them to overcome adversity as one.

Yes individually on a team these skills will help again in their teens and adulthood in the many relationships they will encounter. Working together with co workers at their jobs. Pulling their weight so that everyone benefits. It will help with their communication skills in explaining what needs to be done and how to get there. Setting up business plans and how to persevere when things don’t go as planned.

I know putting my daughter in to track after she played soccer for a while helped with her impatience with her soccer team mates, because she was able to excel in a solo event and also the team track events. I saw her become more helpful, patient and calmer while she was playing soccer. It allowed her to accomplish the things she needed through her own acquired skills. Helping her to be a more rounded team mate in soccer and track.

Sports are Important Well Into our Senior Ages

Sports are important for the obvious benefit of setting themselves up for being active in their teens, and well into adulthood and as Seniors. If they are given an outlet to continue their activity I think it goes far in helping them stay healthy and taking them into their later years. Avoding health issues from lack of activity. So sports are important in all aspects of our lives, through all of the stages we progress through as humans.
